A ticker symbol is a short version of a company name.

Benefits of Ticker Symbols:
-Every ticker symbol is unique (some companies have similar names and this eliminates confusion)
-It is faster to type than a full company name
-Faster for trade executions

Examples:
-McDonald's = MCD
-Facebook = FB
-Caterpillar = Cat
-Google = Goog
